Ben first began playing trumpet at the age of 9 after hearing a relative perform in church. He continued to play in band and orchestra throughout high school, consistently placing first in his section. After graduating, Ben intended to study computer programming, but chose instead to pursue his passion for music.

Ben completed a bachelors of music degree in Trumpet Performance from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI. While there he was finalist in the Young Artists competition performing the Suite for Trumpet in D by Handel with the University Orchestra. He also presented three solo recitals, performed the Haydn Trumpet Concerto with the University Wind Symphony, and appeared as a soloist and ensemble player numerous times at the University church. In addition, he was a founding member of the University Brass Quintet and Brass Choir.

Ben received his Masters of Music in Trumpet Performance from the University of Minnesota with a secondary emphasis in early music history. While there he served as first trumpet of the University Brass Choir in addition to a vigorous teaching and performance schedule.

Ben continues to maintain a private studio and perform throughout the Minneapolis area in addition to conducting the exciting new ensemble, No Limits Brass Choir.

Ben's students include members of area youth ensembles such as GTCYS and No Limits brass choir, and many are selected each year to participate in middle school and high school honor bands throughout the state.
